Selection procedure
After submitting the application for the scholarship you will have to go through the selection process. There are some basic steps through which you will go through for selection.
- Fresh students who are enrolled in any of the degree programs at Honors College are eligible to apply for the scholarship
- The college will call more than 400 candidates to the campus for the interview and then all the students have to appear in the college and then a few of them will be selected for the scholarship.
- More than 150 students will be able to get the scholarship.
Award details
The candidates will get the following benefits when they apply for the scholarship.
- There are two levels of finding. In the first level, students will get a full tuition fee, a residence hall room, and a basic resident dining plan for four years; the second level provides a partial tuition scholarship each year for four years.
- Candidates will get an Annual book allowance for both full and partial scholarships
- Free iPhone/iTouch as part of UMD’s Mobility Initiative for both full and partial scholarships

Academic Requirements
The candidates who have to apply for the Banneker Key Scholarships have to maintain thier CGPA average of 3.20 or better each semester. They have to complete a minimum of 30 credits per year. The credit hours that you earn in the summer or winter semester will count as the requirement for the year. You are not eligible to get the cost of winter and summer courses in the scholarship. Each year the educational year starts in the fall and ends in summer. So they will count all the credit hours that you earned in winter and will add in the summer term also.
If any of the students who are a part of Banneker Key Scholarships have an issue of low GPA and they believe that they are not able to maintain thier GPA have to contact the Banneker/Key advisor. The students who are unable to maintain thier GPA will get another grace period in which they have to apply for those subjects that have low marks and then they can once again re-qualify for thier scholarship.
